The new TW-747: Highly adjustable without rotating the shaft

This driver is actually a milestone. Because Honma has managed that the loft and the face can be adjusted without rotating the shaft. Those who are used to traditional drivers know that the position of the shaft changes depending on the setting. This is not only annoying but also affects the performance. Honma has managed to avoid this change with the so-called "non-rotating system". The loft can be changed by +-1° and the face by +-1.5°.

The 460 driver is available as left-handed version as well. Get in touch with us for more details.

Please keep in mind that when you select a longer shaft than standard a custom Honma order is required. Meaning that Honma has to do the customization, not ExactGolf. And this requires about 8 weeks of additional shipping time. This is not the case for all other customizations and also not for shorter shafts.

Buy Honma TW Driver online

Buying a driver online is much less risky than buying a whole set of irons. First, the choices are limited and most of them are easily modifiable. For example, the loft is not carved in stone and can be changed at least slightly with the supplied key itself. The head size, on the other hand, cannot be changed, just like a shaft that is too short cannot simply be extended again. But you can always change the whole shaft and mount it yourself.

Head size: 455 or 460cm³?

The first decision you have with many drivers is the head size. For most players this decision is relatively simple, because basically the bigger the better. Just because there is a bigger playing surface and it is easier to hit the ball in the middle. In addition there is a maximum of 460 cm³ which should be used.

With the Honma TW747 Driver you can choose between 455 and 460cm³. The smaller 455 version only has a weight screw in the rear of the head. The 460 variant has two. This allows to get even more weight under the ball so that it goes more easily into the air. If you don't have very high club head speeds and a very clean hitting pattern, the 460cm³ variant will normally be better for you.

Loft: 9.5 or 10.5°?

Basically the loft of the Honma TW747 Driver can be adjusted 1 degree up or down. But you also have to be aware that this also changes the lie a bit. If possible, leave the default setting as it is. Then the club stays as it should be. What is good about the Honma Driver is the possibility to adjust it without rotating the shaft. Nevertheless it would be good to get along with the standard loft. Basically the 9.5° variant should only be chosen for high club head speeds from 100mph upwards. Roughly speaking. Of course, there are also driver swings that are slower but still better advised with 9.5°. The safe variation would be 10.5° which can be set down to 9.5° if necessary.

Honma TW747 Drivershaft

Now we come to a topic that practically no other manufacturer has mastered as well as Honma. The shaft range of the TW747 is outstanding. Not only the abundance of shafts but also the quality.

We can also say it this way: if you buy a driver from another manufacturer today that uses OEM shafts, then you maybe have a decent driver head but most of the time a very inferior shaft. But the latter is absolutely crucial for a good drive. At Honma you can be sure to get a shaft with the right weight, length and quality. Especially with regard to the torque, i.e. the twists during the swing, this is decisive. Players who want a relatively soft shaft but still want to keep the torque as low as possible will benefit the most.

If you scroll down a bit you will see the offered shafts with the appropriate swing weights. You have the free choice from D-1.5 to D-5. The latter is really only something for professionals who can also swing a heavy driver. D-4 is also a swing weight that is rarely found on the tour. The choice of most good players is between D-1.5 and D-3. Very good players with tour speeds around 115mph will be well advised with the Vizard FD6 in Stiff or X-Stiff. Players between 100mph and 115mph should follow the FD5, FP6 and FD6 in SR.

Players with low club head speeds should rather choose the standard Vizard TW747 or the FP5 or FD5 in Regular. The standard Vizard TW747 shafts are no worse because they do not cost any extra and in most cases are absolutely sufficient. However, it must be clear that a higher swing weight than D-2 is not possible with the standard shaft - at least not without additional tinkering.

If you are not sure, just contact us, we will be happy to help you.

Shaft length: 45,25 inch

The "usual" shaft length of the driver is 46 inch. However, the trend goes towards shorter shafts. Why? Simply because the players hit the ball better on average and thus gain in length. In most cases at least. Of course, the club head speed decreases slightly when the shaft is shorter, but this is usually overcompensated.

We recommend to keep the Honma TW747 standard shaft length of 45,25. This is just the right choice for a good reason. It is not advisable to order a shorter shaft blind as it cannot be extended afterwards. Conversely, shortening is always possible.

Please note that changing the shaft length has a big influence on the swing weight. For example, if you order a shaft that normally has D-1, you will need to shorten the shaft to increase your swing weight accordingly - and not so little at all.

Choice of grip for the driver

The standard Honma grip is actually already the optimal choice and an upgrade in the rarest cases makes sense. Unless you already have a favourite grip that you don't want to move away from, we have a whole range of them on offer for you. Since we have to reassemble all other grips separately, a small surcharge is due.

There are players who prefer a slightly thicker grip on the driver for the reason of preventing "fast hands". These are players who like to close the clubface and hit the ball.

About Honma

Honma is a manufacturer from Japan like no other. It has been copied many times but nobody has ever achieved what Honma has achieved. And that would be to establish itself as a premium manufacturer for whom the own claim is only the best of the best. That's why people are willing to spend tens of thousands of Euros on Honma equipment. A 5-star Honma Beres set costs for example over 45.000€ - and these clubs find satisfied customers.

It's not that bad with the TW747 driver, of course, even if it's certainly not a bargain. But if it were one, it wouldn't be Honma on it. With the TW747 series, Honma has made a very important decision: players with a smaller budget should also be able to benefit from the excellent Honma quality. The first step was the release of the TW747 series and the second the contract with Justin Rose. This brings the Honma brand closer to a broad golf audience. So far, Honma has been seen as a niche player, someone who serves a small market segment and plays in a category that is far away from all other manufacturers.

This has now changed with the TW747 and any golfer can be happy with that. It means that he gets first-class Honma quality at fair prices. This applies to the TW747 iron sets but also to the woods and the driver. This one can show off with an adaptation system where the shaft doesn't rotate. Honma has already patented this system for some time and has now made it available to golfers with smaller budgets with the TW747 Driver.

Who decides for a TW747 Driver makes a certain statement: No compromises in quality and maximum performance. That's what every Honma club stands for like no other.
